Genoa, Nev. — A death at a Fish Springs construction site on Wednesday morning is being investigated by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Nothing suspicious has been found, so far.

County commissioners will discuss appointing a new Library Board trustee to replace Bonnie Rogers, who is moving. Residents Jimayne Merkow, Theresa Oliveira, Stephen Talbot and Stephen Theriault are up for the position.

If you’re interested in how governments operate utilities, a presentation on the county’s sewer and water systems is on tap at commissioners’ meeting. Commissioners meet 10 a.m. today at the Douglas County Courthouse, 1616 Eighth St., Minden. Visit www.douglascountynv.gov for more information.

There were a couple of rear-end collisions on Highway 395 on Wednesday, including a four-vehicle pile-up at Stephanie right around noon. Three people were transported to Carson Valley Health for treatment.

A bit over a quarter-inch of rain fell in the Pine Nuts, according to the Post Numbers Fire gauge up above Pine Nut Creek. Otherwise, it looks like the thunderstorms mostly missed Douglas on Wednesday.

Just the first five months of 2023 saw 14.33 inches of rain, with .94 inches just from May in Minden, where records have been kept since 1906. Add the 6.97 inches that fell in the first quarter of the water year and that’s 21.3 inches since Oct. 1, 2022, which I believe is a new record.

We might see some isolated showers this afternoon, with the high temperature forecast to climb to near 76 degrees and the west wind at 10-15 mph this afternoon. While we’re looking at a couple of sunny days, showers and thunderstorms could be back by Sunday.
