Tiger track and field pins several to Class 5A North all-region teams

Douglas High track and field had numerous names on the Class 5A North track and field all-region lists.

Leading the way was sophomore Bliss Moody, who was named the Class 5A North girls field athlete of the year.

Moody set the school record in the long jump with a mark of 17 feet, 10 inches at the Big George Invite.

The Tiger multi-sport athlete also recorded the second-best high jump mark in the North this season of 5-2. She was first team in both the high jump and long jump and earned second team honors in the 200-meter dash.

Moody was also on Douglas’ 4x100 relay team which was named as a first team all-region selection, including Kaylee Bradford, Grace Strabala and Elizabeth Gneiting.

Joining the first team selections was senior Sophie Marchut, who earned the honor in the shot put.

Freshman Katelyn Coons was a first team all-region selection in the 300-meter hurdles with the second quickest time in the North, registering a 48.01 at the regional championship meet.

Her elder sister, Ava Coons, picked up second team honors in the 100-meter dash, posting the third quickest time in the North this season in a 16.78.

Katelyn and Ava Coons joined Gneiting and Strabala on the 4x200 relay team that earned second team all-region honors.

Gneiting earned second team honors in the triple jump, where she PR’d at the regional meet.

Logan Karwoski picked up a second team all-region selection in the high jump while Megan Strand was second team in both the shot put and discus.

On the boys side, the Tigers’ 4x200 and 4x800 relay teams both recorded first team honors.

Kevin O’Connell, Connor Jackson, Joshua Nelson and AJ Thurston earned the honors for the 4x2 while Zakery Weddell, Jackson Davis, Luke Davis and Joel Nord picked up the recognition in the 4x8.

Dylan Spear-Holub was chosen for the second team all-region team in both the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles.
