Walters named Golfer of the Year

Douglas High sophomore Brock Walters was named the Class 5A North Golfer of the Year.

Walters ran away with the regional title by five strokes for his second consecutive regional crown before taking eighth place at the state tournament.

He was the top finisher from the North at the state meet.

Douglas High’s Wyatt Prather was named as an honorable mention to the Class 5A all-region boys golf team.


Douglas High’s Jacob Lewis named NIAA top 10 student-athlete of year

The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association recognized Douglas High senior Jacob Lewis as a top student-athlete of the year.

The NIAA names 10 athletes from both the North and the South for the award.

Award winners are chosen based on students who excel in athletics, maintain a high academic status and volunteer in their community.


Douglas High volleyball hosting player/parent meeting

On June 6, Douglas High volleyball program will be hosting its annual parent/player meeting.

The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the high school commons.

Tiger head coach Suzi Townsell said the meeting will be discussing summer offseason scheduling, team camps, hell week and tryouts.

Women’s Golf Day at Carson Valley Golf Course

Carson Valley Golf Course is hosting two free events on Women’s Golf Day on June 6. The first is a free golf clinic at 8 a.m. and includes mimosas. The second is another free golf clinic at 5 p.m. and includes a glass of wine and appetizers. In addition to the clinics, the women’s club is holding an open golf day, and all golfers,18-years and older, are invited to join the club in a four-person scramble teeing off at 8:30 a.m. Reservations are required for both the clinics and the scramble and can be made by contacting the golf course pro shop at 775-265-3181. Tee time reservation cut-off for the scramble is noon June 3.
