Genoa, Nev. — Jakota Wass is performing 5-7 p.m. at the Carson Valley Days carnival with Moxy Ruckus picking up the mike at 8 p.m. and playing into the night. The carnival is open 3-11 p.m., and those who purchased discount tickets will be able to use those.

There may be an informal gathering of folks in downtown Gardnerville tonight, though my observation is that has mellowed considerably over the years, based on the number of arrests and broken windows downtown.

Because of those crazy days of yore, though, there’s a rule. County code prohibits glass or metal containers on public streets or open areas between 5 p.m. today and 5 a.m. Saturday in Gardnerville. Bars and restaurants are supposed to stop serving in glass containers at 9 p.m.

On Wednesday, Genoa Town Board members approved having Genoa Co. do the $85,000 work on the Town Church, bolstered by a $28,000 donation from Friends of Genoa. The Genoa Historic Commission is scheduled to review the project on June 21.

Also on Wednesday, Minden Town Board members denied a request to provide water outside the town boundaries to a 118-home project at East Valley and Stockyard roads.

Flooding around Fort Churchill prompted the Pony Express Re-ride to divert north up Highway 50 to Fallon before continuing east to regain the road. The rider is just west of Simpson Pass as of 5:21 a.m. and is scheduled to arrive in Sand Springs at 6:30 a.m.

The riders will take today and Saturday to cross the rest of Nevada and are scheduled to turn over the mochila to Utah around 1 a.m. Sunday. The riders did a pretty good job of beating the storm on Thursday, arriving in Carson City at around 6 p.m.

It appears we’ll could see a break from the thunderstorms today with a chance of isolated showers after 2 p.m. Otherwise, the forecast calls for mostly sunny skies and a high temperature around 76 degrees. The wind will pick up out of the west at 10-15 mph, gusting to 25 mph.
