Genoa, Nev. — The northbound slow lane of Highway 395 was closed just south of Cradlebaugh Bridge as the State Police and Nevada Department of Transportation await a tow to pull a Jeep out of the river. The driver was the only occupant and flagged down deputies around 3:30 a.m.
That won’t be the only road closure this morning as drainage work is scheduled for Mottsville Lane and along Foothill Road. The state will be working on Foothill over the rest of the month.
There was an artillery duel over the Valley on Sunday afternoon as torrents of rain fell in the Sierra. A gauge at Walley’s Hot Springs recorded .93 inches, while the Desert Research Institute gauge south of Genoa Lane and east of the river recorded 1.01 inches. Sheridan got the high rain total with 1.15 inches.
Fredericksburg resident Jeff Garvin reported 75 lightning strikes and .21 inches of rain on Sunday. I haven’t heard or received any reports of flooding in Douglas or any fires set by lightning. That doesn’t mean there wasn’t any, of course. The county remains on a flood watch until 9 p.m. tonight.
My thanks to all the folks who sent Carson Valley Days photos over the weekend. We’ll publish a sampling of what we received in Wednesday’s Valley Views page. It was a busy weekend.
Today’s forecast is for scattered showers and thunderstorms, before showers this afternoon. The forecast high temperature is 71 degrees with the wind out of the west at 5-10 mph.
