Genoa, Nev. — The codification of the book that the Genoa Historic District Commission has relied on for decades is scheduled to go before Douglas County Planning Commissioners 1 p.m. today. The commission, which reviews commercial property in Nevada’s oldest town, is the subject of an open meeting law complaint. Planning commissioners meet at the Douglas County Courthouse, 1616 Eighth St. in Minden.
Rumor is that an item regarding the Douglas County School Board attorney’s contract will be pulled today while the board majority shops for more accommodating counsel. The school board is scheduled to wrap up the budget at their 4 p.m. meeting in the Douglas High School Media Room.
Taxable sales in Douglas County posted another decline in March, according to figures released by the Nevada Department of Taxation last week. The county’s merchants were down 7.7 percent compared to the same month in 2022. The declines put the county up just 4.5 percent going into the fourth quarter of the fiscal year.
It isn’t just Douglas. I don’t know if it’s an anomaly, but Carson is down 31 percent the same month, which puts the capital down 7 percent so far for the year.
Carson Pass still has 26 inches of snow after just over 5 feet melted off since May 15. Over on Ebbetts Pass, there’s still just over 4 feet of snow left to melt which is a fair bit less than the 10 feet, 3 inches it had in mid-May.
There was a pretty good rivulet rolling along County Road on Monday evening as I was heading out of the office after a rain shower. The flood watch expired without any serious reports. Both forks of the Carson River are flowing high but steady as the snow continues to melt.
The rain has raised a pretty good fog bank over on the west side of the Valley. It should burn off fairly soon, but keep an eye out if you're on the roads.
The weather is supposed to clear on Wednesday, but for today the National Weather Service in Reno has a 50-50 bet we’ll see more scattered showers or thunderstorms after 11 a.m. Expect a high temperature of 77 degrees and the wind out the west at 5-10 mph.
