The Flag Day 2023 R-C Morning Report

Clouds hovered along the face of the Carson Range on Monday morning. It might be a bit before we see that again as thunderstorms finally clear out. Photo special to The R-C by Kathy Schuman

Genoa, Nev. — I'm following up with the power company on the outage that affected thousands of Douglas County NV Energy customers on Tuesday morning. It went completely dark in court while I was there for at least a minute.

School board trustees voted 4-3 to table discussion of legal services with its current law firm on Tuesday night and conduct a special meeting after seeking requests for proposals from other law firms. Joey Gilbert's name came up a couple of times, I'm told.

While sympathetic to Genoans who have been cut out of the process, planning commissioners voted Tuesday to recommend changes to the Genoa Historic District Commission ordinance to county commissioners.

I found the May 21, 1995, story where I reported commissioners’ decision to separate the Genoa Town Board and the historic district. Before that, the seven members of the two boards would meet together, but with the town board going to five members that was deemed unworkable.

The planning commission also heard a report on the county’s transfer of development rights program which requires projects like Virginia Ranch to purchase density to build.

I got my DMV permanent voucher card in the mail. Veterans in Nevada are eligible for an exemption from the basic government services tax on your vehicle registration. That fee is also tax deductible in some cases.

Between Monday and Tuesday, I have 1.4 inches of rain in my gauge a mile north of Genoa. Minden, where records have been kept since 1906, had .72 inches over the last 48 hours, according to the National Weather Service.

We should see an end to all that today with mostly sunny skies, and a high of 81 degrees. The wind will pick up out of the west at 10-15 mph.
