Douglas High School graduate Cmdr. Gieorag M. Andrew was named skipper of the Virginia-class attack submarine USS Missouri.

The Gardnerville resident previously served as executive officer on board USS Toledo in Groton, Conn. from 2018 to 2020, where he was interviewed about the submarine for an episode of “Smarter Every Day.”

From 2007 to 2009, Andrew served as division officer on board USS Henry M. Jackson homeported in Bangor, Wash. During his time on board the boat, he completed recertification for strategic operations and three strategic deterrent patrols.

For his second sea tour he served as engineer on board USS John Warner in Norfolk, Virginia from 2013 to 2016.

Andrew assumed command of the Missouri on Feb. 28 at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

• Gardnerville resident Christian Mariani has been named to Southern New Hampshire University’s Winter 2023 President’s List. The winter terms run from January to May.

• Minden resident Molly Coverley was named to the University of Sioux Falls’ Spring 2023 Dean’s List.

Coverley is majoring in criminal justice and psychology.

• Minden resident Jackson Boniface of Minden has earned a place on the Spokane Falls Community College honor roll for Winter Quarter 2023.

• Gardnerville residents Zoe Brown and Payton Miller were named to the dean’s list at Biola University

• Utah Tech University student Minden resident Ray Ruckman is among the students honored on the President’s List.

• Douglas High School Class of 2021 Alyssa Anderson has been named to the dean’s list at the University of Montana for the fourth semester in a row in Missoula, Mont.

• Minden resident Savannah Sumners was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. Sumners was initiated at University of North Alabama.
