Genoa, Nev. — A Topaz Ranch Estates home was destroyed in a fire around 10:30 a.m. Monday. Multiple callers reported the home on Lava Court was ablaze, according to Douglas County Dispatch. East Fork firefighters were on scene for around five hours overhauling the fire.


Just a few minutes before that, a vehicle collision that required extrication occurred in front of Harvey’s at Stateline and blocked the highway through there for at least a couple of hours.


A proposal to rename the East Fork Fire Protection District Training Center after Battalion Chief Scott Fraser is on the docket at today’s Board of Trustees meeting. Trustees meet 1 p.m. at their offices, 1694 County Road.


I went on a literal bug hunt on the Martin Slough Trail on Monday and got a mouthful of gnats for my trouble. There have been multiple reports that some sort of arthropod that could be Mormon crickets are swarming in Minden.


They might have received a bit of a shock this morning as the temperature dropped to 28 degrees at Minden Tahoe Airport. It hit freezing around 2:55 a.m. and is still just around 30 degrees after 6 a.m.


Today’s forecast calls for sunny skies and a high temperature near 67 degrees. The west wind will pick up to 10-15 mph this afternoon. It’s going to warm back up on Wednesday in time for the first day of summer.
