Genoa, Nev. — East Fork Fire Trustees voted to name the training facility going in at Station 14 on County Road after Battalion Chief Scott Fraser. They also recognized Battalion Chief Troy Valenzuela for 25 years of service.


The driver of a Kia Forte was taken to the hospital after the collision that tied up Stateline for hours around 10:20 a.m. Monday, according to the Nevada State Police The driver ran into the fence at Harvey’s twice and then rear-ended a vehicle at the stoplight, which then hit another vehicle.


A woman in a Chevrolet Malibu went 100 feet over the embankment near the bottom of Conway Summit on Highway 395 just north of Mono City. According to the California Highway Patrol, she was ambulatory after the wreck was spotted at 6:22 a.m. Tuesday.


Gardnerville Town Manager Erik Nilssen sent me a picture of the insect manifestation on the Martin Slough Trail near Zerolene Road. I received a close-up that I’ve sent to the Nevada Entomologist, who is probably up to his neck in bug calls. When I hear, I’ll tell everyone.


Minden recorded a new record low temperature for June 20 with 31 degrees. The previous record was 32 degrees set in 1995. This is the second day in the second year in a row where a record low was set in late June with 33 degrees set on June 19.


Monday’s blustery conditions contributed to a glider flight record by Minden pilot Gordon Boettger and friend Bruce Campbell who flew 1898.29 miles up and down the Sierra, before landing at Cedarville, Calif., which is 29 miles further than the previous record, according to wife Melissa. They flew 17 hours and 25 minutes.


The record for June 21 is 30 degrees in 1908. I don’t think that record is in any danger this morning with 37 degrees at Minden-

Tahoe Airport, which was reading 28 degrees on Tuesday.


It will warm up for this first day of summer, with the high forecast to reach 73 degrees with the wind out of the north at 5-10 mph in the morning.
