Genoa, Nev. — It sounds like work may be resuming on the Highway 50 corridor study with the Nevada Department of Transportation proposing a trial lane reduction this summer. I’m following up for more detail.
County commissioners meet 4 p.m. today to approve the tax rates for more than two dozen entities. All of the increases are for the Lake Tahoe districts. The distinction for biggest tax rate hike going to Zephyr Heights GID with a 46.52-cent per $100 assessed valuation jump to 74.5 cents.
Commissioners don’t have a lot of leeway in this item. Every one of those increases was approved by an elected board at an agendized meeting.
Members of the Regional Transportation Commission approved the county’s five-year transportation plan on Friday. They also approved spending a combined $1.1 million to move irrigation and power poles for Muller Lane Parkway.
I saw the mosquito fogging sign out along Jacks Valley Road on Saturday. The Mosquito Abatement District hopes to break out the fixed-wing aircraft to spray 6,000 acres this week.
Work on the drainage made it to Genoa Lane this morning as state workers made the turn from Foothill toward Highway 395. They are supposed to wrap up this week.
The Monster Truck Nitro Tour was at the Douglas County Fairgrounds on Saturday, which served as a preview for next month’s Mayhemilition and Douglas County Agricultural Fair, July 13-16.
There’s a chance we’ll see some thunderstorms this afternoon and again on Wednesday before the heat arrives, with temperatures forecast to hit 96 degrees by Sunday.
The forecast calls for scattered showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. today with a high temperature of 77 degrees and the wind out of the west at 5-10 mph.
