Genoa, Nev. — Susan Marie Frontczak will present a Chautauqua 6:30 p.m. today of American Red Cross founder Clara Barton at the Dangberg Historic Home Ranch. Information, Dangberg.org
I’m starting to get releases about the Fourth of July. On Tuesday the Forest Service reminded visitors that alcohol is prohibited at Zephyr Cove Beach on July 4 and at Chambers Landing Beach starting Saturday.
I’m not entirely certain what the turnout is going to be for a Tuesday Fourth of July. Those who can, will likely take all four days. AAA Nevada is betting travel on the Fourth of July will break the highest volume ever with 50.7 million people flying or driving.
There’s going to be plenty of stuff to do around the Valley for the Fourth, and if you’ve a hankering for fireworks there’s plenty of big shows around.
I won’t sugarcoat that home fireworks are prohibited in the Sierra Front. We always get someone who insists on setting something off, and gets caught, since no one ever just lights one firework. That’s a misdemeanor with the potential of 6 months in jail and a $1,000 fine. I will be reporting those arrests.
Mother Nature may be providing some fireworks today as the last of the thunderstorms where it looks like we may get the worst of it. If we’re going to get showers, expect them to pick up 1-2 p.m.
Then it’s time to turn up the oven. The high for June 19 was 69 degrees, that will reverse to 96 by July 2. There’s an excessive heat warning in the Sacramento Valley of California with highs forecast to be 105-110 degrees, which will likely drive those folks to climb to cooler climes.
Today the high is expected to hit 81 degrees with northwest winds 5-10 mph this morning. If we get thunderstorms it will be midnight before they wrap up.
