Man admits sexually assaulting child

A Carson City man faces 25 years to life in prison after he admitted to a charge sexual assault of a child under the age of 16.

As recently as two weeks ago, Diaz and his attorney confirmed a March 13-17 trial date that was vacated on Thursday.

Diaz will not be eligible for probation at his sentencing, scheduled for April 3. He hung his head and slowly shook it as District Judge Tod Young read the elements of the offense which occurred between 2014 and 2017.

Diaz is represented by Nadine Morton. Diaz will be the second admitted sex offender to be sentenced that afternoon.

Jose Luis Guerra III, 37, faces up to a decade in prison after he admitted plying a 14-year-old runaway with alcohol and marijuana as part of what prosecutors referred to as extended sexual conduct.

According to court documents, the crime began June 1, 2022, and lasted until Guerra’s Nov. 8, 2022, arrest, when the girl was found in his home.
