Deputy Juvenile Probation Officer Tamara “Tammy” Morris has been promoted to chief of the department.

Morris takes over for Chief Mike Torres who retired after 30 years of service to Douglas County.

Morris graduated from the University of Nevada in 2001 with a bachelor’s degree in sociology and a minor in psychology.

While completing her studies, Morris held an internship with the Douglas County Juvenile Probation Department, where she discovered her passion for working with at-risk youth.

Morris went to work for the Douglas County Juvenile Probation Department immediately upon graduation and never looked back. She was promoted to deputy chief juvenile probation officer in 2021.

Morris said she “is excited and honored to now accept the position of chief juvenile probation officer.”

When not working, Morris enjoys traveling, camping and outdoor activities.

She said she is grateful to live in Douglas County with her family and to serve the community she calls home.

“Tammy has always been a staunch supporter and advocate for the youth assigned to her caseload,” said District Judge Tom Gregory. “Her career really blossomed when she was promoted to deputy chief, a management position in which she excelled. The Juvenile Probation Department is a vital component of our growing community and I have the utmost confidence in Tammy’s ability to lead the way forward.”

Morris was hired effective March 4 after a competitive process.
