Douglas softball sweeps Bishop Manogue

The Tiger softball team outscored Bishop Manogue, 26-1, in a two-game sweep Saturday.

In game one, Mackenzie Willis had 12 strikeouts and allowed two hits in five innings.

At the plate, Lilyann Lee belted a three-run homer in the bottom of the fourth, ending the first contest with four RBIs. Lee hit her third home run of the season in the second game, plating another three RBIs.

Dakota Till and Maddie Gooch had multi-hit performances in the first win with Till knocking in three runs.

In game two, Talia Tretton proved just how dominant she can be, allowing one hit and striking out nine.

She also had two homers, driving in three runs.

Gooch was 3-for-4 with an RBI while Mercedes Covey also had a pair of hits and an RBI.

The Tigers are now 6-3 overall.

Baseball drops two of first three games in Southern California

Douglas High baseball fell to Fullerton (16-4) and San Clemente (10-3) over the weekend with a win over Trabuco Hills (2-1) in the middle.

In the win over Trabuco Hills, two Tiger pitchers combined to allow just four hits.

Kaden McIver went four innings and struck out six with one hit allowed.

Robert Williams threw three innings of relief, allowing three hits with two strikeouts.

Against Fullerton, six Tigers managed to get a hit. Keegan Snooks was credited with a pair of RBIs. Jacob Davis and Sean Lemming each drove in a run.

Versus San Clemente, Aaron Moss had a pair of hits while Davis added another single.

The Tigers have two more games scheduled on the trip before returning for a home game against Galena on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Tiger track and field gets first meet under its belt

Douglas boys and girls track and field both took second place at the Comstock Classic hosted at Carson High last weekend.

On the boys side, senior AJ Thurston won the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes in 11.61 and 23.05.

Sophomore Joshua Nelson was third in both events.

In the 800, Samuel Gaskell was second in 2:36.28 behind Sierra Lutheran’s Joshua Fox.

Douglas’ 4x4 relay posted a 3:37.41, besting its competition by nearly 30 seconds.

The foursome included Kevin O’Connell, Luke Davis, Nelson and Thurston.

The Tiger boys 4x8 had a similar result, winning in 9:21.14 with a combination of Davis, O’Connell, Joel Nord and Gaskell.

Rock Gignac took home first place in the long jump and the triple jump, hitting marks of 18 feet, 10 inches in the long jump and 38-1 in the triple jump.

For the Douglas girls, junior Elizabeth Gneiting and freshman Grace Strabala were second and third in the 100-meter dash.

Strabala won the 400 meters in 1:07.08 while Madeline Moody was fourth.

Gneiting went on to win the girls long jump and triple jump.

Ava Coons won the 100-meter hurdles in 17.53 and finished second in the 300-meter hurdles in 51.27.

The senior duo of Megan Strand and Sophie Marchut were one and two in the shot put with Strand posting a 31-2 while Marchut threw the weight 30-7.

In the discus, the two flipped as Marchut won the event with a throw of 101 feet, seven inches while Strand posted a mark of 94-1.

Stella White started her sophomore season by winning the pole vault, clearing a mark of eight feet.

Douglas girls swim and dive fall to Manogue

The Bishop Manogue girls swim team bested Douglas over the weekend with a team score of 158 to 127.

Kiera Duffy picked up a win in the girls 100-meter freestyle with a time of 1:01.34.

In the 200-meter relay, Duffy, Gracie Goss and Sweetpea Vieria and Cammie Jahreis won in 1:49.52.

The foursome also finished second in the 200-meter medley relay while Duffy was second in the 200 individual medley.

Vieria took second in the 200-meter freestyle in 2:10.81. Goss was also the runner-up in the 50-meter freestyle.

In the 100-meter fly, Caitin Taylor took second in 1:07.89.
