Genoa, Nev. — It snowed again overnight in Douglas County. Topaz Ranch Estates resident John Flaherty reports 3-4 inches of snow at his place, while Fredericksburg resident Jeff Garvin is reporting a couple of inches in southern Carson Valley. I have essentially a dusting a mile north of Genoa.
There was a report of a vehicle in a ditch along 395 in the Pine Nuts. Nvroads.com is showing chains and snow tires are being required on 395 south of Gardnerville and on 88 south of Minden. Add four-wheel drive over Kingsbury and at Tahoe.
I got word on Wednesday that the Gardnerville Garbage Bear was nicked around where he was raiding trash cans near Douglas Avenue. He was a 2-year-old weighing 120 pounds and now has an all-expenses paid trip south into the Nevada Outback.
It sounds like county commissioners will wrap up budget hearings today with discussion of the room tax. The hearings start at 10 a.m. Unless something really goes off the rails, today should be sufficient from what I’ve been watching.
Commissioners will also discuss around $700,000 in supplemental requests that includes around nine additional employees. Chief Financial Officer Terri Willoughby said that most county departments have vacancies.
A new emergency manager has been hired for Douglas County to take over that function from East Fork Fire & Protection District. The contract with the district runs about $200,000 and will end on June 30. I expect we’ll hear more about the new person in the near future.
I don’t see any fog from my vantage point, but there might be some out and about. The forecast contains a chance of snow showers between 2-8 p.m. The sun’s out this morning and may stick around a little longer than on Wednesday. The high could hit 46 degrees and gusting to 20 mph.
