Genoa, Nev. — Douglas County commissioners wrapped up their budget hearing on Thursday, canceling today’s meeting as expected. There are some rough spots to smooth out for the final budget, including China Spring Youth Camp and the Library, but otherwise it was pretty solid.

Saturday will be one of the busiest in a while, with Game Night at the Community Center, Family Day at the Cultural Center and Kiwanis’ Ham Bingo at the CVIC Hall. Ticket sales appear to have closed online for the Genoa wine tasting on Saturday, but you might be able to get in by calling the town at 775-782-8696 today.

Registration for Big Mama’s Show & Shine to benefit Meals on Wheels opens on Saturday. The event is May 13 at Lampe Park and benefits Meals on Wheels.

It wouldn’t be Friday if there wasn’t a special weather statement from the National Weather Service in Reno. It looks like the next storm isn’t due in until Sunday night, with high snowfall rates in the Sierra and rain-snow mix down below.

There is hope on the other end, with a drying and warming trend arriving with Easter weekend. Here’s hoping that forecast is solid.

March does appear to be going out like a lamb, but the lion is still hanging around for a bit longer. Sunny skies are forecast for today with a high temperature of 51 degrees, with the west wind 5-10 mph this afternoon. Saturday will be a little less sunny and a little breezier.
