Thick beards, short or long beards, groomed, scruffy, white or red, all scruff is urged to strut the stage during Tay’s CV Days Beard Competition on June 10.

“We have a lot of men with beards in this town and we should show them off,” said Taylor Lynch of Taylor’s Scissors & Clippers.

The beard competition was a highlighted addition to the Carson Valley Days last year after a long hiatus and for the second year, Lynch is hosting the hairy event.

“It’s something I wanted to bring back,” she said. “Last year was so much fun and it’s something so unique and looked forward to. Some of the guys are growing beards specifically for this competition.”

This year the competition will be judged by The Record-Courier Associate Publisher Tara Addeo, The Altruistic American founder and executive director Chris Battenberg and Reno hair stylist and barber Dayne Devlin.

Lynch said there are 11 categories for men to compete in, from the best mustache and longest beard to the most unique and scruffiest beard.

Lynch said she is most excited for the 11th category.

“It’s called the Best Beard Strut,” she said. “I want the guys to work their beard, show it off, twerk it, or do whatever they need to do to own that beard and rock it.”

She said the new category makes for another way to appreciate men.

“There’s not that many things I think for guys to participate in,” she said. “You see a lot of beauty contests for women, but I think the guys need that boost too and to have something where they can be hairy and raunchy, that’s what this competition is for.”

Lynch has owned Taylor’s Scissors & Clippers for almost 3 years, winning best hairstylist for two years running in The Record-Courier’s Best of Carson Valley awards.

“For me, it’s such a huge honor,” she said. “I grew up here, I went to Carson Valley Days, I have been around the community and to be a part of it now as an adult, it’s such a different feeling. It’s fun, it’s neat and it’s an honor.”

Lynch is involved in the community through fundraisers, job fairs, Carson Valley Days and being a judge of other beard competitions.

“I love it,” she said. “I love seeing the smiles and laughter too from everyone when they see a big beard and when they cheer the guys on and I love being a part of this community and doing what I do.”

Competitors can sign up for any category for $10. Sign up before Carson Valley Days at Taylor’s Scissors & Clippers located at 1679 Highway 395 North unit B, Minden or at least one hour before the competition starts 6 p.m. June 10 at the Nissan Booth at Lampe Park.
