Genoa, Nev. — East Fork firefighters responded to an early morning fire at the martial arts studio located across the parking lot from Wells Fargo Bank in Gardnerville. Firefighters were rolling up their hoses by dawn in the fire that was reported around 5 a.m. Units from all over Western Nevada responded to the fire.
It was the second major response in around 12 hours for East Fork in addition to the wildland fire reported near the base of Kingsbury Grade on Sunday. May is wildfire awareness month.
The new interim airport management team of Jeff and Heather MacDonnell will be introduced to the Airport Advisory Committee at 6 p.m. today. Heather ran for Clerk-Treasurer last year. The committee meets at the Douglas County Courthouse, 1616 Eighth St., Minden.
That Ebbetts Pass spike in snow-water equivalence looks like it’s leveling off at 77.6 inches, according to the snow telemetry. The previous record of 76.4 inches on May 8 was set in 1995.
The East Fork at Horseshoe Bend is starting to exceed forecasts running at 11.55 feet at 5:25 a.m. today. It was forecast to be 11.3 feet at 7 a.m. It’s not much, but it is the opposite of where we were during the flood watches when the river would come in below the forecast.
A wind advisory is in effect for Lake Tahoe through 8 p.m. today with 40 mph gusts pushing 1-3-foot waves to the north and east shores.
Expect sunny and breezy weather today with the high hitting 60 degrees. The southwest wind will pick up to 20-25 mph later this morning, gusting to 35 mph.
