The Capital City Arts Initiative announced that the winner of the 2023 Aim $500 scholarship was Douglas High School senior Paloma Moon for her “Scarlett” pen and ink drawing.

Moon will attend the University of Nevada, Reno, in the fall.

Spring Forward 2023, a Capital City Arts Initiative student show, is in the Community Development Building (the Brick), 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City, today through Friday. The Brick is open to the public 8 a.m. - noon, 1-4 p.m. Monday through Friday. An exhibition video tour with artists’ interviews will be online soon.

Spring Forward 2023 includes a variety of art media including ceramics, drawing, painting, and mixed media.

“(The initiative) is proud present this show of our area’s creative high school talent,” said Executive Director Sharon Rosse. “The students’ art goes far beyond one’s expectations of sophistication and demonstrates their accomplished, diverse, and creative achievements.”

Moon was an American Visions nominee whose work was on display at the Nevada Museum of Art earlier this year. She received gold keys for her drawing “Greg” and her art portfolio “Classmates” and two silver keys at the annual Scholastic Art Awards.
