Genoa, Nev. — A public hearing for the possible adoption the 2018 International Wildland Urban Interface code is scheduled to be conducted during the East Fork Fire Protection District’s Board of Trustees meeting 1 p.m. today.
The backlash from just the possibility of discussing a policy regarding transgender students prompted the Douglas County School District to issue a statement on Monday, saying there is no policy presently and one has yet to be proposed.
Trustees are also scheduled to hold a public hearing on the final budget for 2023-24, which is sort of a misnomer, since the Legislature is still working on the state budget, where most of the district’s funding comes from. Trustees meet 4 p.m. at the Airport Training Center on Airport Road, Building G-1.

The first Esmeralda Avenue Farmers Market of the season is scheduled 4-8 p.m. today in downtown Minden. Esmeralda Avenue will be closed for most of the afternoon while they set up.
The East Fork at Horseshoe Bend bumped right up against 13-foot action stage this morning with 12.97 feet. The disconnect between the actual reading and the forecast is narrowing to only 2.5 inches this morning. There were times when it was as much as a foot.
While temperatures are going to warm up, it shouldn’t even come close to the three-day record highs of 97 degrees recorded May 18-20, 2008. With temperatures in the upper 80s, there might be a temptation to jump in the water. Don’t do that. Cold water shock claims a life a year in Douglas County.
Today’s high temperature is forecast to reach 82 degrees with the wind out of the west at 10-15 mph, gusting to 25 mph.
