Douglas High students and parents got together over fall break and gave the 200 Hall teacher’s lounge a make-over.
“We wanted to give them a retreat from their class and have more connection with each other coming in here,” said Stephanie Christensen.
Christensen coordinated the project along with her husband Carter, Melissa Showley, Lindsey Torres, Maggie Vieira, Marsha Millward and students Reese Christensen, Daisy Lehmann and Emery Christensen.
Christensen said the motivation to re-do the lounge came after an appreciation event held for the teachers last year.
“It just seemed kind of dull and sad in here, so we wanted to spruce it up,” she said.
Christensen said Home Depot donated paint and Ace Hardware donated the painting supplies.
“It was really cool because there was no red tape,” she said. “They were just like ‘it’s for the teachers, absolutely here you go.’ It was very heartwarming.”
She said other donations in the form of monetary and furniture were also donated by families and community members.
They added a couch, some shelves to the walls, tables and chairs and a mural painted by junior Reese Christensen.
“We took off the wallpaper and found some old windows behind it, they don’t actually look out anywhere, so we decided a nice painted landscape and mountain view could go there,” said Christensen.
Christensen said the lounge was expected to be done for the teachers by the return of school on Monday.
