Genoa, Nev. — Genoans fight against a cell tower behind the Genoa Volunteer Fire Department continues 5:30 p.m. today at the Genoa Town Hall. They are anticipating the Genoa Historic District Commission’s denial will be appealed to county commissioners on Dec. 7.


The Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center kicked off Veterans Week on Saturday with four veterans who shared their stories. The museum had representatives of four services there. The museum will host an Armistice Day bellringing 11 a.m. Nov. 11.


Scarselli Elementary is bringing back its annual Veterans Day assembly 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, featuring the Douglas High School Tiger Battalion’s Color Guard. The assembly has been dormant since 2014. Gardnerville Elementary will be conducting its Veterans Day Assembly 0900 Wednesday.


“There are a lot of bees,” is not something you want to hear on the radio when you’re headed to an accident scene. The California Highway Patrol responded to an overturned semi hauling bees on Sunday morning on Highway 190 near Townes Pass west of Death Valley. The vehicle is unapproachable as emergency officials await the arrival of a beekeeper.


My rain gauge had .3 inches, mostly from this morning’s squall. Fredericksburg resident Jeff Garvin reported .26 inches and Jacks Valley reported .25 inches. That’s a pretty good start for November, though I expect most of that precipitation dodged Minden’s gauge.


The forecast calls for a return of rain mainly after lunch with a high temperature of 56 degrees and the southwest wind at 20 mph gusting to 35 mph. The snow level could drop to 5,300 feet after midnight.
