Organizations and businesses across Carson Valley are collecting food for the Dec. 8 KTVN 2 News Share Your Christmas Drive-By Food Drive.
The Genoa Volunteer Fire Department is collecting donations for the annual food drive, which is 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Carson Valley Inn in Minden.
The Town of Minden and Douglas Disposal will both be collecting donations during trash pickups Dec. 4-8.
Customers can put out their donation in a sealed bag next to their trash cans. Those customers who have had visits from bears may drop off donations at Douglas Disposal’s offices in Minden Village or at the Douglas County Transfer Station in Gardnerville.
Minden trash customers may also drop their donations off at the town offices.
Minden’s Greater Nevada Credit Union is participating in a companywide effort to gather donations in preparation for the Dec. 8 KTVN 2 News Share Your Christmas Drive-By Food Drive, which benefits the Carson Valley Community Food Closet in Gardnerville.
The television station conducts the 12-hour drive at the Carson Valley Inn, the Governor’s Mansion in Carson City and in Reno.
The Credit Union is asking Western Nevadans to contribute nonperishable foods and new children’s toys.
Toys must be brand new, and not wrapped, to be accepted and expiration dates of food items should be checked before donating.
Monetary donations for local nonprofits are encouraged and can be made online to support Advocates to End Domestic Violence and the Carson Valley Community Food Closet. Toys collected will benefit local nonprofits including Austin’s House.
Raley’s in Gardnerville is collecting donations for Food for Families.
Residents can donate at the check-out line.
