Genoa, Nev. — Travelers will get a break from utility work on Main Street this weekend before it resumes on Monday. Work was extended to Dec. 3 on Tuesday, according to NVroads.com. The last two months of one lane southbound traffic has snarled the highway through Minden and Gardnerville since September.

As of 6 a.m. today, I haven’t heard a response from the Nevada State Police on the status of the driver in Monday night’s crash on Kingsbury. Soon as I receive word, I’ll post an update to that story.

After being open for only four months, the eastern entrance to Yosemite National Park closed for the winter on Tuesday. Tioga Pass was slow to open last summer after record snows in the park kept it closed until July 22.

Monitor Pass reopened after being closed Nov. 15 ahead of last week’s storm. Sonora and Ebbetts Pass were reopened on Wednesday, according to the California Department of Transportation.

School’s out for Thanksgiving today through Friday. The Douglas County Public Library is closing at 3 p.m. and The Record-Courier will officially close for the holiday at noon today, though my email address is open 24-7. We will be back on Monday.

Today marks the 60th anniversary of the assassination of John F. Kennedy in Dallas.

Since my Thanksgiving tradition means last-minute shopping, often on the morning of the holiday, I’ll do a quick survey of the grocery stores to see who’s open Thursday morning.

Sign-ups are still open at www.thefoodcloset.com for Thursday morning’s Turkey Trot. Entry fees from the run-walk benefit both the Carson Valley Community Food Closet and Douglas Animal Welfare Group.

The forecast calls for partly sunny skies and a high near 61 degrees. The wind will barely pick up to 5 mph out of the north. Clouds are coming in tonight, which will keep the low right around freezing in Minden. There’s a slight chance showers will greet Turkey Trotters on Thanksgiving morning.
