Genoa, Nev. — Monitor Pass closed on Thanksgiving night due to snow on the roadway. The California Department of Transportation reports they'll re-evaluate on Monday.

According to snow telemetry, an inch of snow fell at the Monitor Pass snow telemetry site on Thanksgiving, doubling the amount of snow on the mountain. Two inches fell in Heavenly Valley.

You have to go to Mount Rose to find any snow on the road on the Nevada side. No road controls are in place around Lake Tahoe and the traffic cameras at nvroads.com show that the highways at Lake level and Kingsbury are clear.

Silver State Towing is headed down to a Thanksgiving morning vehicle rollover just south of June Lake Loop this morning. A blue van rolled about 300 feet off the highway at 9:13 a.m. Thursday. The driver was ambulatory and taken to Mammoth Hospital.

Besides Thanksgiving morning’s Pulse Point test point reporting a structure fire at 980 Stephanie Way (not a real address), it appears the day was fairly quiet, with a handful of medical calls reported in both East Fork and Tahoe Douglas.

Douglas County 4-H is conducting its third annual Country Christmas Market Saturday and Sunday at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, 920 Dump Road in Gardnerville.  The market will feature handmade items from local vendors, kid activities and Santa pictures.

That coincides with Shop Small Saturday, where residents are encouraged to shop at the Valley’s local businesses. I think shoppers will be surprised at what they can find without going to a big store.

One of the advantages to being late to the Morning Report, is that I can see that it’s still cloudy out at 8 a.m. That’s supposed to clear later this morning as the breeze picks up.

Once it’s gone, expect sunny skies and chilly weather with the high stuck around 41 degrees all weekend. Lows are forecast to drop to 12 by Sunday morning, so stock up some firewood.
