Genoa, Nev. — A candlelight vigil for Domestic Violence Awareness Month is 5:30 p.m. tonight at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center in Gardnerville.

East Fork firefighters responded to a recreational vehicle on fire around noon Wednesday at the top of Johnson Lane on Crowne Way. No one was injured and it didn’t spread to the home and it was knocked down by 12:30 p.m.

Genoans will draft a letter to the Douglas County Board of Commissioners indicating they’re interested in a proposed merger with the Genoa Historic District Commission. Any merger would require a change in the ordinance approved last month.

Minden’s discussion of the siren’s silencing was more about trying to put the issue to rest than anything else. There was zero appetite to try and buck the state law, which included a $50,000 fine per instance.

There’s a possibility county commissioners will agree to take over the Topaz Ranch Estates General Improvement District today, though that’s far from a certainty. According to a report, the district receives $217,000 in property taxes to care for 26 miles of road. Last winter’s storms did around $6 million in damage.

The appointment of a new Tahoe Township Justice of the Peace, discussion of the cost associated with VHRs, a 116-unit project in Minden, and drainage improvements on Sheep Camp Road are all on today’s commission agenda, starting at 10 a.m. today at the Douglas County Courthouse in Minden. There’s more detail at www.douglascountynv.gov

Expect a repeat of Wednesday’s weather today with a high of 75 degrees under sunny skies and the wind out of the north at 5-10 mph. I don’t see any threat to the tomatoes through the middle of next week with the lows hanging around 40 degrees or warmer.
