The William A. Morgan Foundation held its third annual celebration on Oct. 6 at the Carson Valley Country Club in honor of local trail building organizations.

The Tahoe Rim Trail Association, Tahoe Area Mountain Biking Association, Carson Valley Trails Association, and Alpine Trails Association were honored during the event.

“The contributions and dedication of these volunteer organizations have been of tremendous value to their communities and the many visitors who enjoy the trails they build and maintain,” said Foundation President Craig Morgan. “As the number of residents and visitors to the Tahoe Basin and surrounding communities has grown, so too has the demand for access to the region’s public lands. Without the countless hours of volunteer work performed by these organizations, access and enjoyment of these lands would be constrained and many trails left unrepaired.”

Attending the event on behalf of the Tahoe Rim Trail Association were Development Director Veronica Palmer and Communications Director Anthony Porter. Also attending were Jess Smith, Chairman of the Biking Association’s Board of Directors, Trails Director Kristine Koran, Carson Valley Trails Association Director Juan Guzman and Bill and Mary Young with the Alpine Trails Association. The honorees were presented with plaques of recognition on behalf of the foundation.

The William A. Morgan Foundation is dedicated to recognizing those who have contributed to the preservation and maintenance of wilderness and recreational areas for the public’s enjoyment and benefit. The foundation was established in honor of the late William Morgan, former supervisor of the U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit and Executive Director of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency.
