Genoa, Nev. — East Fork firefighters were on scene at a reported a structure fire for two hours in the Gardnerville Ranchos around 11:10 p.m. Tuesday. That was about an hour after they responded to a vegetation fire near Waterloo Lane and Highway 395 in Gardnerville.

That breath of north wind on Tuesday managed to keep most of the smoke from the Quarry Fire from coming over the Sierra, giving us decent air quality last night, at least.

Foresters are continuing to burn merrily away down south near Strawberry with a goal of 50 acres a day until the weather finally catches up to them or mid-November arrives. Don’t expect much of a break in the smoke when the wind is out of the southwest.

Jury selection was Tuesday morning in a felony domestic battery case involving Jacob Angelo Massey. Massey, 37, is represented by Nadine Morton. Prosecutors Jim Sibley and Nathaniel Smith are representing the state.

Forecasters predict we’re going to see a two-dozen degree temperature drop over the next five days after peaking at 84 degrees on Thursday. That’s 4 degrees below the record for the day set in 2020.

Expect to see sunny skies with a high temperature near 80 degrees in Minden with the north wind picking up to around 5 mph in the afternoon.
