A $1,000 grant was awarded to the Pine Nut Mountains Trails Association in Gardnerville for a trail cleanup project beginning at the popular Johnson Lane OHV staging area and adjacent trails within a 15-mile radius.
More than 30 volunteers participated in an Oct. 14 cleanup engaging community members as young as 10-years-old. This year’s cleanup effort targeted several illegal dumping sites, shooting debris, and trash removal along trail routes and within the staging area filling a 30 yard dumpster and several dump trailers.
The nonprofit Nevada Offroad Association provided the grant and is awarding offroad user groups and clubs funding for trail stewardship projects. The funding may be applied towards trail ready and stewardship projects with the objective of creating improvements on public lands that are open and accessible to offroad recreation.
Funding for the Nevada Stewardship Project originated through a partnership with the Fox Factory Trail Trust Program. The association received funds to support local on-the-ground efforts by putting the money back into the trail infrastructure and the land. These types of projects are important to the offroad community in advancing sustainable and responsible recreation.
“It is important that the offroad community takes care of the environment where we play… NVORA is pleased to be able to assist organized clubs in making a difference in their own communities as well as doing our part to keep public lands free of debris and open to the public…” said Association Executive Director Mathew Giltner. “This will help us sustain responsible recreation on public and private lands and is an important component of our work.”
Social clubs, organized grassroots, and Nevada nonprofit organizations dedicated to promoting and advocating for responsible offroad recreation are eligible to apply for grant funding. For more information, visit NVORA at www.nvoffroad.us
