There was a time not so long ago that people would call The Record-Courier to ask when Carson Valley would be conducting trick-or-treating.

Until around the turn of the century, Nevada Day was celebrated on Nevada’s actual birthday and concerns about potentially drunken celebrants resulted costumed children gathering candy on Oct. 30.

That hasn’t happened for decades now, but to be clear, trick-or-treating is Tuesday.

On Wednesday, The Record-Courier wrapped up its annual Halloween coloring contest.

Trick or Treat Safety Street is 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. Cost, $5 per child. Fright at the Fairgrounds takes over at 8:30 p.m.

The cost is $5. There will be prizes for best child, teen and family costumes.

The last two nights of Fright at the Fairgrounds are 3-9 p.m. Saturday and Halloween night.

The Not So Scary version is $5 for kids and $10 for adults and the Full Scare is $20.

Trinity Lutheran Church’s Trunk or Treat is 5:30-7 p.m. at 1174 Mill St. Gardnerville.

A Trunk or Treat is 5-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the three churches on Gardnerville's Highway to Heaven. It's a joint effort between Shadow Mountain, St. Gall Catholic  and Carson Valley United Methodist churches on Centerville Lane. The Sheriff's Posse will have their horses at the Methodist church.

The Minden branch of the Douglas County Public Library is hosting a  Storytime 10:30-11:30 a.m. for children age 4 and under.

After Storytime, there will be Trick-or-Treat around the library

The library will also have Trick-or-Treating for all ages from 3-6 p.m. and READing Paws from 3:30-5 p.m.

The Corley Ranch 17th annual Pumpkin Patch & Harvest Festival opens 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. continues through Tuesday.
