Works of art stimulate an individual’s thoughts, emotions, beliefs, ideas, experiences and stories and a collection of nine western artists have displayed theirs through sculptures, drawings and paintings during the Sierra Nevada Invitational Art Show and Sale on Saturday and Sunday at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center.
Sierra Nevada Invitational Art features Minden resident Sheri Greves-Neilson, world and nationally renowned artists George Lockwood, Joe Milazza, Joe Mancusa, and Barron Postmus including Marti Miller Hubbell, Carl Ciliax, Valerie Coe, and Teri Sweeney.
Many of the works capture Western life, like Valeri Coe, Marti Miller Hubbell and Carl Ciliiax whom spent time raising cattle or being a Desert Bighorn Sheep guide and living the cowboy/cowgirl lifestyle.
“The freedom and contentment I find on the back of a horse provide the focus and the inspiration for my work,” said Coe.
“My paintings celebrate the essentials role of the horse in ranch life and the bond between horse and rider that so deeply defines Western culture.”
Ciliax craftmanship displays his past and work as a desert bighorn sheep guide in the horse business and cowboy lifestyle through three-dimensional stories that honor western heritage.
“While I hope that my passion for the West and its inhabitants is evident, I give equal importance to the honesty and accuracy of my paintings,” said Miller Hubbell. “These are scenes from my life.”
Others like Teri Sweeney, Joe Mancusa, Joe Milazza, Sheri Greves-Neilson and Barron Postmus depict nature and captures compelling views of deserts, mountains, rivers and lakes and animals.
The Sierra Nevada Invitational art show is sponsored by ABE Printing, Bill Sweeney, Carson Valley Accounting, Carson Valley Arts Council, Carson Valley Health, Carson Valley Visitors Authority, Eye of Rie Photography, Prism Photographics, Kim Steed photography, Genoa Gallery and more.
