A Washoe County man admitted two counts of attempted sexual assault on a child under the age of 16 in connection with the assault on a 14-year old girl on Aug. 26, 2022.

Andrew David Dunn, 41, faces up to 40 years in prison at his Dec. 12 sentencing as a result of the pleas. He won’t be eligible for probation unless a psycho-sexual evaluation finds that he is not a high risk to reoffend.

District Judge Tod Young pointed out that the plea was a legal fiction, since Dunn admitted sexually assaulting the girl.

According to court documents, Dunn was at a softball game where he routinely bought beer for the team. The girl said he encouraged her to drink alcohol before taking her home before he stopped the car and raped her.

Prosecutor Chelsea Mazza said that Dunn was released without conditions before the girl or her mother were aware and that he had made the $50,000 bail.

Young placed Dunn under the supervision of the Department of Alternative Sentencing and ordered him not to have any intoxicants or contact with the victims.

Under his bail conditions he’s subject to search and seizure of his person home and computers for alcohol, drugs or child pornography.

Michael Cotton, 44, admitted on Aug. 22 to two counts of attempted lewdness with a child under the age of 14.

Each count carries a prison term of 2-20 years.

Cotton has been in Douglas County custody since May 8. He is represented by attorney Matthew Ence.

The incidents occurred between March 20, 2020, and April 30, 2023.

Cotton will have to register as a sex offender and an ex-felon once he gets out of prison.

He will also face extradition on a warrant out of Panola County, Texas, where he was arrested in 2016 for invasive visual recording. The warrant was issued in 2018 after he failed to appear in court.
