Douglas High School track and field had another impressive showing this past weekend at Reed High School in the Reed Sparks Rotary Invitational.
The girls team took third place as a collective with several top finishes.
In the sprints, sophomore Grace Strabala won the 100- and 200-meter dashes, setting personal record times in both events.
In the 100, Strabala finished in 12.83, while winning the 200 in 26.52.
Kaatelyn Coons was fifth in the 100-meter hurdles in a personal record time of 17.20.
Coons went on to win the 300-meter hurdles in a season best time of 48.96.
Sophomore Autumn Petite was fifth in the 300-meter hurdles in 52.24.
In the distance medley relay, the foursome of Amy Van Wagenen, Logan Axtell, Lucy Nord and Ayla Nelson were second with a time of 13:58.65.
Logan Karwoski and Ava Coons were second and third, respectively in the high jump as both checked off clearances of four feet, 10 inches.
Karwoski went on to take fourth in the long jump with a leap of 15-feet, 1.5-inches.
On the boys side, the Tigers finished 15th as a team.
Luke Davis took sixth in the 1,600 in 4:43.17 while Joel Nord was ninth in the 800-meter run in 2:12.
Davis was sixth in the 3,200 as well in 9:53.78.
The Tigers’ distance medley relay team of Davis, Nord, Sage Spencer and Zak Weddell took second place in 11:12.11.
Justin Parra McGee won the frosh/soph shot put with a toss of 44-feet, 8-inches.
His throw would have placed fourth in the varsity portion.
Joshua Nelson was seventh in the long jump with a mark of 19-5.
Douglas baseball readies for busy week
The Douglas High School baseball team will once again put its unbeaten record (11-0, 3-0 in Class 5A North play) on the line this week with four league games over the next seven days.
Tuesday, Bishop Manogue (4-11, 2-2) will take on the Tigers in Minden before Douglas plays the Miners in Reno Thursday.
Saturday, Douglas will travel to McQueen (8-7, 3-2) for another league tilt before hosting Reno (9-4, 3-1) Tuesday, April 9.
