Marilyn Smith captured this photo of a balloon drifting over her place in Minden on Tuesday morning. She and husband Jim both sent in pictures. I plan on using his in Valley Views next week.

Genoa, Nev. — There might be some campaign buses and like accoutrements in Minden today as Douglas County Republican Women host the primary candidates for U.S. Senate at Valley Christian Fellowship around lunchtime. There are a dozen Republicans vying for the nomination.

Minden Town Board members will discuss how to best honor the memory of former chairwoman Susan Jackson at their meeting tonight. Also on the 5:30 p.m. agenda is the design review for the new courthouse and building a new sidewalk on 10th Street. Town Board members meet at the CVIC Hall.

Genoans may be looking to unload the Town Hall’s emergency generator. Installed decades ago, the last time it started incorrectly it cost the town $10,000 to fix, its battery is dead, and it doesn’t provide much juice, according to staff. Town Board members will discuss that and hiring a new attorney 5:30 p.m. today at the Genoa Town Hall.

Stormy weekends have slowed down work rebuilding Main Street through Gardnerville this spring, Project Engineer Wes Osmer told the town board on Tuesday. He said workers were spending Mondays cleaning up from a storm and Fridays preparing for the next one.

If they get a break this weekend, it’s because the storm is rolling in earlier. There’s a fair chance of snow showers on Thursday and Friday, though it’s unlikely any will stick in the Valley.

Mostly sunny skies with a high temperature of 65 degrees are in the forecast today, but so is the wind. It’s expected to pick up to 15-20 mph out of the southwest around noon, gusting to 35 mph.
