Carson Valley nonprofits and community organizations received $13,858.90 from Minden Rotary Club at its March 28 meeting.
• Suicide Prevention Network, the only suicide prevention network in Northern Nevada, was awarded $1,427.36 to help with marketing and outreach.
• Douglas High School Automotive Class received $1,887.88 for the purchase of two tool cabinets to organize the classroom. This program is a dual-credit program with Douglas High and Western Nevada College.
• Gardnerville Elementary School received $791.41 for their “Creating Builds Language” program in the kindergarten class for gardening and structured playing.
• Kids and Horses Therapeutic Riding Center received $2,000 to partially fund their Stable Moments program. This interactive program focuses on foster and adopted children in the Carson Valley.
• China Spring Youth Camp, serves troubled teens coming from 16 of the 17 Nevada counties (Clark County has its own facility), received $2,052.25 to support the Challenge Course, a ropes and zip line
configuration. Funds will cover inspections and instruction/training for staff.
• Horses and Humans received $2,000 to fund programs for 17-24 year-olds to strengthen leadership and life skills. Funds will be used to bring in additional instructors and horses.
• Douglas County Recreation Department received $3,700 to support the new outdoor pickleball courts. Funds will go toward buying benches, umbrellas and other goods for the outdoor space.
Funds awarded were from Minden Rotary’s 3rd annual Giving Cup Golf Tournament (May 2023) and the 2024 Super Bowl Pancake Breakfast fundraisers.
