Genoa, Nev. — A house fire in Fish Springs was reportedly caused when the heater exploded just before 5 a.m. today. A bang and smoke coming from the crawl space prompted the evacuation of the home off Jacobsen Lane. There were no reports of injuries.
The only reason I know any of this is thanks to Douglas County’s dispatchers, who will be honored today by commissioners with a proclamation celebrating National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.
The Environmental Protection Agency will update county commissioners on the progress for the Leviathan Mine Superfund Site located upstream from Carson Valley. Commissioners meet 10 a.m. today at the historic Douglas County Courthouse in Minden.
A dozen Douglas High School Career & Technical Education students participated in a signing on Wednesday afternoon. There were seven who plan on serving in the military and five who plan on civilian gigs
Today, students and lots of other folks will be participating in the Spring 2024 Job Fair & Career Expo, a collaboration between the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce and Douglas County Social Services. The Expo is 3-6 p.m. at the Douglas County Community Center.
The official temperature hit 74 degrees in Minden on Wednesday. While the forecast calls for 72 today, it might be a bit higher. A light 5 mph breeze is forecast out of the northwest.
