The big project on the 2024-25 capital improvement program before county commissioners today is two lanes of Muller Lane Parkway, which is estimated to cost $18.8 million. With the letter from Park Ranch Holdings I reported on Saturday, this could be somewhat contentious today.
Update: Not a peep about Muller Parkway, but the Douglas Animal Welfare Group came out in support of the Cat Cottage at the Douglas County Animal Shelter.
An $8 million project to build the 100-year Hot Springs Buckbrush flood control structures on BLM land above Johnson Lane is included in the program. The project relies on a hazard mitigation grant worth $7.868 million, with the county providing a 10 percent match.
In addition to reviewing the capital improvement program, commissioners will be updated on the budget process for 2024-25 at their 10 a.m. meeting today in the historic Douglas County Courthouse, 1616 Eighth St., Minden. The new fiscal year starts July 1.
The Good Governance Group wraps up its county commission question and answer sessions noon today with District 5 candidates Janet Freixas and Nate Tolbert at the COD Casino. Bring $5 for the room and a beverage.
An adoption event featuring puppies is 1-3 p.m. today at Coffee on Main in Minden sponsored by the Douglas County Animal Shelter. You can find out more about adopting a pet by calling 775-782-9061.
Looks like the west wind will pick up to 10-15 mph gusting to 25 mph this afternoon, according to the forecast. The high today is predicted to hit 68 degrees under sunny skies.
