Genoa, Nev. — A dense smoke advisory has been extended down to Carson Valley through 5 p.m. today due to the Park Fire. Visibility could drop to a half-mile, so be careful out on the roads.

There’s an air quality meter up in Johnson Lane on airnow.gov reading 109 or unhealthy for sensitive groups. I was up in Indian Hills on Wednesday, and I can confirm it was fairly smoky. The meter in Ranchos Aspen Park is running 56, or just in the moderate range.

The Park Fire grew about 4,400 acres over the last 24 hours to 391,200 as of 8 p.m. Wednesday, which jibes with the satellite mapping. The more than 6,000 firefighters made some headway last night, though containment is still 18 percent. The loss is up to 434 structures as of this morning’s report.

The future of Drayton Boulevard through Pleasantview could be revealed as part of a discussion on the development agreement being reviewed by county commissioners today. The RTC recommended removing it from the county transportation plan in 2020, but that apparently requires approval from the developer.

A public art advisory committee and $15,000 to fund it are up for commission approval today with the discussion of a memorandum between the Carson Valley Arts Council and the county. Commissioners meet 10 a.m. at the Douglas County Courthouse in Minden. Visit www.douglascountynv.gov and click on agendas for more information.

The smoke will push the chance of thunderstorms into Friday, though the forecast still calls for a high of 98 degrees. The zephyr will help push the smoke out this evening with west winds 5-10 mph this afternoon.
