A Los Angeles couple face up to 20 years in prison after admitting they stole 200 checks across four states.

Keyli Dayana Escalante Enamorado, 21, and Rudy Rocael Socop Domingo, 24, were arrested April 16 with 200 checks valued at over $500,000 located in their vehicle.

According to court documents, the couple stole checks in Nevada, where 21 of the checks were from Douglas County residents.

During arraignment, prosecutor Ric Casper said the check stealing spree may have been part of a bigger organization the couple were roped into.

Enamorado’s attorney Mary Brown said her client might have been forced and compelled by Domingo to participate in the crime. Facts about that could be determined from a pre-sentence investigation.

Sentencing is set for both defendants on Sept. 16.

Savannah Raquel Tau Tau Pele, 27, was arrested with Edgar Delgado after he shot and killed South Lake Tahoe resident Omar Reyes Garcia. Tau Tau Pele was accused of destruction of evidence when she lied to law enforcement whether there was a gun in the vehicle.

She admitted to the misdemeanor on July 22, but according to Tau Tau Pele’s attorney, Kenneth Stover, she did not intend to conceal evidence. She was more or less in shock from the incidents that occurred prior to the couple being pulled over.

Douglas County State Attorney James Sibley said lots of facts about the case came to light with Tau Tau Pele’s cooperation with the investigation of the incident, including her involvement.

According to Stover, Tau Tau Pele had just purchased a Toyota 4Runner and she and Delgado were looking forward to a trip to Lake Tahoe in her new vehicle. Stover said the couple arrived at the hotel late in the evening and began enjoying the luxuries of the casino. Tau Tau Pele then began to feel ill and retired to her room. Delgado remained on the casino floor where the altercation with Garcia occurred. Delgado rushed to their room to get Tau Tau Pele and they fled the scene.

Sibley said footage of Tau Tau Pele detained in the back of the police car showed confusion and shock on her face, implying that she did not know the full scope of what had occurred.

A review hearing for Tau Tau Pele is scheduled for Dec. 9.

Delgado was sentenced to 22-55 years in prison June 19 for first-degree murder and an enhancement for the use of a deadly weapon.
