School District fills three leadership roles

Since Frankie Alvarado’s hiring as the Douglas County School District superintendent, other leadership roles are being filled from a new human resources director and principals at Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School and Minden Elementary school.

School starts in a dozen days on Aug. 19.

Previous acting superintendent Jeannie Dwyer has returned to the position of executive director of human resources, which she held previously. She was also executive director of inclusive education.

“I’m honored to take on the role of executive director of human resources,” said Dwyer. “My focus will be on developing and maintaining programs that attract and retain highly qualified staff, enhancing system efficiencies, providing consistent training and professional development, and a fostering a healthy balanced work environment.”

Dwyer holds an administrative endorsement, an autism endorsement, a master’s degree in special education, and a bachelors of science in elementary and special education, all from the University of Nevada, Reno.

Dwyer has held various roles throughout her career including district wide implementation specialist and teaching positions with the Washoe County School District. She was a volunteer and community training coordinator at the JUSTin Hope Foundation, and she participated in the Nevada Leadership Education for Neuro development Disabilities program at the University of Nevada, Reno.

“I am committed to improving staff morale through open communication, collaboration, and a culture of inclusivity and support,” she said. “Additionally, I plan to create a comprehensive wellness program to promote the well-being of our staff.”

Pending board approval Amy Carter has been appointed principal at Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School and Andrew Fromadahl has been appointed as the new principal of Minden Elementary School.

Carter has served as vice principal at both Minden Elementary School and Gardnerville Elementary School for the past two years.

Carter has 15 years of teaching experience in grades K-5. She served as a kindergarten and fifth-grade ELA teacher at Minden Elementary school and as the elementary ministry director at The Crossing Church in Las Vegas. She earned recognition as Douglas County’s Distinguished Educator of the Year in 2022.

Carter holds a masters of education in educational leadership from Nova Southeastern University-Las Vegas and a Master of Education from Washington State University-Vancouver.

“Douglas County School District believes that Carter’s leadership, commitment to student success, staff collaboration, and her ability to create a positive learning experience will foster new heights of academic excellence and a supportive and enriching environment for students at Pau-Wa-Lu,” officials said.

“I look forward to joining this school and this community at Pau-Wa-Lu,” said Carter. “I am excited to meet families and partner with them in their children’s education.”

Since 2005, Fromadahl has served various roles including most recently assistant principal at Meneley Elementary School. He also served as the summer school principal for DCSD in 2022 and was named DCSD Teacher of the Year in 2017.

Fromadahl holds a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Western Governors University, a Master of Arts in Teaching from Sierra Nevada College, and a bachelor of arts in liberal studies from Oregon State University. His credentials include a Nevada School Administrator License, and licenses in elementary education, English language acquisition and development, and middle school mathematics.

“I’m excited to join the dedicated and innovative staff at MES,” said Fromadahl. “I look forward to supporting and connecting with the students and families that make up the Rattler community.”

The board is expected to approve the new principals during the Douglas County School Board meeting set for 4 p.m. Aug. 13 at Douglas High School.

After approval, Fromadahl and Carter will take on their roles effective with the starting of the 2024-2025 year.

Other positions still open include Inclusive Education teachers for Piñon Hills, Gardnerville, Jacks Valley, and Meneley Elementary schools, and for Whittell High School and ASPIRE; bus drivers and substitute bus drivers, custodians, substitute teachers and an attendance secretary.
