A Punjabi man faces up to six years in prison and a $5,000 fine after he admitted to one count of sexually motivated coercion involving force.
Jashandeep Singh, 29, was arrested Aug. 6, 2023, and is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
He must undergo a psycho-sexual evaluation and be found not to be a high risk to reoffend. Once released, he will have to register as a sex offender.
Singh’s sentencing was set for Sept. 24.
Another Punjabi man arrested on Aug. 5, 2023, was sentenced to another six months in jail on July 23 after serving most of the last year in custody.
Kulnishan Singh, 26, admitted to charges of open and gross lewdness and unlawful contact with a child, both gross misdemeanors.
Defense attorney Roberto Fuentes Jr. said Singh had been in the country for around 15 months when he was arrested on Aug. 5, 2023, at Zephyr Cove Beach. He was in the water and had a few beers, but he denies he was intoxicated. Prosecutor Chelsea Mazza said the scene was chaotic, with a 14-year-old girl screaming that Singh molested her and a 5-year-old being grabbed by the leg and falling on his face.
Singh said he was not in a position to prove he didn’t commit the crime but promised it wouldn’t happen again.
District Judge Tod Young said Singh admitted committing the acts and sentenced him to 364 days in jail on the lewdness and 180 days on the second case to run consecutively. There is an immigration hold on Singh.
A third man with the surname Singh is in Douglas County custody facing a sexual assault charge after his April 7 arrest in the Gardnerville Ranchos.
Dilawer Singh, 21, is scheduled to appear in East Fork Justice Court on Aug. 28. He is accused of groping a woman while she was intoxicated, according to court files.
