Genoa, Nev. — Longtime Gardnerville resident Dan Hamer got the recommendation for Mike Henningsen’s former Gardnerville Town Board seat. County commissioners could weigh in on that at their Aug. 15 meeting.


The staff for the Town of Minden is recommending denial of a design review for a 5G tower proposed for East Fork Station 14. Minden Town Board members meet 5:30 p.m. today in the CVIC Hall. Award for the $346,964 bid for the 10th Street Sidewalk Project is also on the agenda.


The question on whether to purchase of Candy Dance cancellation insurance goes before the Genoa Town Board at their meeting 5:30 p.m. today in the town hall. The insurance costs $7,028.84 but doesn’t cover cancellation due to conflagration or contagion.


Scheduled for Sept. 28-29, the event is the main fundraiser for the town and was cancelled in 2020 by the coronavirus outbreak and in 1932 due to the bank closures.


I received word on Tuesday morning that a celebration of longtime Genoa Town Historian Billie Jean Byrne Rightmire’s life is 11 a.m. Aug. 31 at the Genoa Town Hall.


A 2.5 magnitude earthquake was recorded under the Walker River east of Topaz Ranch Estates around 4:45 a.m. followed by another 1.6 magnitude southeast of Topaz Lake at about 5 a.m. There as a 2.2 magnitude quake 1 a.m. Tuesday in pretty much the same spot.


It’s going to be warm out again today with a forecast high temperature of 96 degrees with the wind out of the west at 10-15 mph this afternoon, gusting to 25 mph.
