Carson City Health and Human Services Dustin Booth reported that the human case of West Nile Virus came up negative, Mosquito Abatement District Director Krista Jenkins said last night. By that time, The R-C was in a truck headed back from Oregon, so while that front page headline is correct that a Minden woman is recovering, it’s not from West Nile, according to the testing.

Krista Jenkins told me last night that they are still waiting on the results from trapping mosquitoes in the areas they sprayed on Friday and Saturday.

I counted 14 people providing public comment at the Douglas County Planning Commission on Tuesday with a solid 2-1 opposed to moving Barton Hospital to Stateline. Neighbors are concerned about the height, and the helicopter and emergency vehicles, among other things.

Tuesday’s meeting on Barton was for a report only after a noticing error on the zoning text and map amendments. Chairman Kirk Walder said the amendment meeting will be Aug. 28. County commissioners could introduce the ordinances on Sept. 19 and then hold the public hearing in October. All that assumes nothing else arises.

Will Highway 395 reopen this week? Maybe. I’ve been up and down the road just about every day and it looks like it’s getting really, really close. NVroads.com says work will be done 8 p.m. Monday, but that was posted last Thursday.

Nevadafireinfo.org reports firefighters have a line around 80 percent of the 657-acre Gold Ranch Fire burning near Verdi. Fire.airnow.gov shows air quality in the good range through all of Western Nevada south of Pyramid Lake.

Expect sunny skies and a high temperature near 87 degrees with the wind out of the west this afternoon at 10-15 mph gusting to 25 mph.
