Genoa, Nev. — A hearing on an ordinance to ban trucks on Johnson Lane east of Nye to block the Painted Rock Mine goes to county commissioners at their meeting 10 a.m. today at the historic Douglas County Courthouse in Minden. Reading through the comments, it’s pretty clear that there may well be litigation.

There’s a lot of talk on the future of Bing Pit in the comments sent to commissioners and online. That’s spurred by a proposal to design a trail from the pit to Dresslerville Lane as the first phase of a Gardnervillle Ranchos to Gardnerville trail.

Today’s Thursday Wine Walk is themed “Champagne at the Bit” which combines the “are we there, yet?” vibe and celebrating the impending completion of Highway 395. The walk is 4:30-7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 or $15 if you have a Wine Walk glass.

A fire weather watch for low humidity and gusty winds has been issued by the National Weather Service for 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday. It covers the entire Sierra Front and a big chunk of central Nevada so we’ll see what happens.

Firefighters are making progress on the Park, Crozier and Gold Ranch fires. Park, near Chico, is reported at 41 percent containment at 429,259 acres this morning. Crozier’s at 76 percent and Gold Ranch is at 80 percent. Air quality in the Valley is reading good.

Weekend temperatures are forecast to drop to near freezing in a few Sierra locations on Friday morning. In the Valley, well bottom out in the mid-40s, so the tomatoes should be fine.

Today the high temperature is forecast to climb to near 86 degrees, with the west wind at 10-15 mph, gusting to 25 mph, under sunny skies.
