Genoa, Nev. — Members of an ad hoc committee laying the groundwork for hiring a new East Fork Fire Protection District Chief are meeting 11 a.m. today to discuss a compensation study they conducted at the East Fork Fire District Offices, 1694 County Road in Minden.


Two hours later, at 1 p.m. the district board will meet to discuss the study. Chief Tod Carlini has indicated he plans to retire this year but will turn in a letter detailing his plans in September during his evaluation, he said.


Douglas County Public Works Director Phil Ritger is speaking at the Good Governance Meeting noon today at the COD Casino. Cost is $5 to cover the room and a beverage.


For the first time in months, the construction icon at nvroads.com is gone from Highway 395 through Gardnerville. I drove the highway this morning and the cones are still constricting southbound lanes from Eddy Street to Waterloo Lane and northbound from Waterloo to Toler Lane.


Paving shifted to Buckeye Road prompting some dodging of traffic cones through there. It’s the season when new asphalt is in bloom. In the concrete department, we’re still preparing for the installation of a new sidewalk on 10th Street.


We’re looking at another warm, blustery day, according to the forecast. We could see a high of 87 degrees under sunny skies with the wind out of the west at 10-15 mph, gusting to 30 mph at times.
