The red flag is up in Western Nevada 2-10 p.m. today for gusty winds and low humidity, replacing a fire weather watch that was issued by the National Weather Service. Wind prone areas could see 40 mph gusts with humidity down to 13-18 percent.
A whole slew of West Nile virus tests of trapped mosquitoes came in negative, according to Douglas County Mosquito Abatement’s Krista Jenkins. The tests were conducted all over the county, including at Topaz Lake Park.
Like that persistent cough that hangs about after a cold is over, the cones on Highway 395 between Gilman Avenue and Waterloo Lane are still hanging about. I’ll admit to hoping for a more definite ending to the construction, but it appears that there will be fewer and fewer cones until it finally skitters to a halt.
All four lanes north of Gilman are open and there were two northbound lanes between Toler and Gilman open during my foray south this morning. Southbound continues to be at one lane from Eddy Street to Waterloo.

The forecast is for southwest winds 10-15 mph this afternoon with gusts up to 25 mph, increasing to 30 mph tonight. The high on Friday is forecast to be 71 with Saturday’s high forecast at 67 degrees.
