A power outage affected 67 Douglas County power company customers for about two hours on Friday morning.

Reported at 7:22 a.m. today, power was restored to 46 Genoa customers and five in Minden by 9:30 a.m. NVenergy.com reported another 16 were affected by an 8:08 a.m. outage at Stateline.

Troubleshooters were parked along Genoa Lane near the Pink House this morning.

The outage coincided with 30 mph wind gusts recorded at Walleys Hot Springs 6:50-7:40 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.

With high winds through the day, it's possible that power outages will affect Douglas County residents.

Further south along the Sierra Foothills, a gauge in Sheridan recorded a 53 mph wind gust at 6:10 a.m., while one midway up Heavenly hit 61 mph. A site along Highway 88 where it enters Carson Valley recorded a 45 mph gust.

A lake wind advisory is in effect through 5 p.m. today across Western Nevada. A red flag warning for gusty winds and low humidity is in effect for Nevada’s Basin and Range from the Douglas County line east.

An early season cold front has resulted in the cancelation of three events in the Sierra.

“Due to forecasted high winds and cold temperatures, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the (Saturday's) Market at Markleeville,” Economic Development Director JT Chevallier. “Our goal is to always provide a safe and enjoyable market environment and unfortunately the weather forecast did not cooperate with us this month. We are looking forward to the return of the Market on Sept. 21.”

The U.S. Forest Service’s Hike with a Ranger was canceled due to high winds shutting down the Heavenly Gondola. The Pathways for Wildlife presentation at the Lake of the Sky Amphitheater scheduled for Friday night at Taylor Creek has been canceled due cold weather.

National Weather Service forecasters predict westerly winds gusting up to 30-40 mph this afternoon with choppy lake conditions and blowing dust in some desert regions.

There’s a chance of some rain-snow mix in the highest elevations of the Sierra, but forecasters said it’s unlikely to accumulate.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 15-20 degrees below average on Saturday.
