Genoa, Nev. — The wind speed and the temperature came within 6 points of one another at 6:10 a.m. According to the Sheridan weather station, the wind speed was 53 mph and the temperature was 59. That’s not strange for winter, but there’s another month to go in summer.


A cold front rolling through this weekend will bring a chance of showers to Carson Valley today and Saturday. Due to the possibility of cold weather, the Pathways for Wildlife presentation at the Lake of the Sky Amphitheater scheduled for tonight at Taylor Creek has been canceled.


Cool temperatures and precipitation may bring some rain-snow mix to the Sierra peaks, but no accumulation or effects are anticipated, according to the Weather Service in Reno.


It sounded like there was a vehicle pursuit around 6 p.m. Thursday from Highway 50 to Interstate 580 and then north toward Reno. No report that anyone was injured or arrested, but it’s early yet.


It’s going to be a very busy first weekend after school started with Minden-Tahoe Airport’s Open House 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Nevada State Historic Prison Preservation Society’s Glen Whorton will speak 10-11 a.m. Saturday on “The Great and Not So Great Escapes” at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park in Minden. There’s a slight chance of showers 5-8 p.m. today with increasing clouds and a high temperature of 70 degrees. The southwest wind is forecast to be 10-20 mph, gusting to 30 mph.
