New records for coldest high temperature were set over the weekend at 72 and 65 degrees in Minden. There were many places that recorded colder lows than the county seat, but the official records held.
Temperatures dropped to below freezing in the chillier climes of Carson Valley on Sunday morning.
A freezing fog bank along the Carson River in the west side of the Valley saw temperatures at one thermometer drop to 23 degrees between the East and West Forks south of Muller Lane.
Temperatures at Minden-Tahoe Airport, on Highway 88 between Mottsville and Centerville lanes both had 30 degree readings, while a Desert Research Institute gauge posted a low of 28 degrees at dawn Sunday.
Temperatures on the bench trended higher with lows hitting 39 degrees in Genoa and 36 degrees in Sheridan and Fish Springs.
“After that chilly start, temperatures will warm up nicely for the afternoon with clear skies and dry conditions to kick off the new week ahead,” said National Weather Service Reno Meteorologist Edan Weishahn. “Following our fall weather adventure this weekend, more typical late August temperatures resumes … with additional warming and drying through the week.”
A brief rain shower brought .14 inches of rain to Genoa, according to the National Weather Service. But most of the Valley’s gauges recorded .06 inches or less. Skyland received a fifth of an inch, while Glenbook recorded .17 inches of rain.
